At first social media was a space where she can travel the world without having to board a plane or lodge at a hotel. She goes by the name Tess on all her social media platforms.
From communicating with her family overseas to watching the highlights of last night's game to commenting on her friends' posts about her new apartment, Tess is always making new discoveries on the various pages she follows. Tess has come across a niche of communities filled with large clusters of individuals that share similar interests. All her travel excursions are a scroll-up or scroll-down in an opened webpage online. She's so used to exploring the lives of the other users that she's convinced she knows everything about them. At the desk of her computer, she has a great view of the boutiques in their area, the release of her favorite game, and entertainment are some of the amenities. Tess has connected a colossal of individuals and made lots of new friends with people across the large.
It seems ages ago since she was excited to start her profile on MySpace and reach out to thousands of individuals and build communities of individuals that share the same interest. Tess loves expressing herself on social media to a large-scale audience that she could never imagine entertaining in real life. Shutting the doors of her real life to share content with her followers was a routine she practiced daily. become an integral part of a social life With a few clicks she has access to the billions of pages she’ll never have enough time to follow.
She devotes so much time and effort to the doorsteps of random individuals' profiles, she no longer makes visits to her friend. Tess doesn’t go anywhere without her phone and spends the majority of the day surfing the web. Shutting the doors of her real life each day to explore the pages of others online. Her social anxiety flickered like a broken light fixture the longer she spent sitting in her room waiting for a notification to pop up on her feed. The constant urge of checking her device to screen for the latest update or comment was now a pattern that her fingers naturally enjoyed doing. Her craving to scroll up and down caressing the fear of missing out on certain things on her dashboard. The loneliness and emptiness she felt inside when the notification on her computer screen no longer can compensate for the uncontrollable urge to log on. Trapped by the four walls of her computer, Tessa is slowly becoming a follower of her own life as the millions of her followers control her life.
